Why are boys such boys?

You would not BELIEVE the debate Draco has been having with me. Or rather, trying to have. He's not doing very well, I'm afraid.
alt_hermione: Hermione is not sure this is a good idea (Confused)
I'm not sure how to do this, so I wondered if you could help.

Have either of you talked to Tim Clark before? Remember, he's one of the muggleborns who escaped at the Quidditch World Cup and now he lives at Sherwood with Sarah and Terry and Dudley and the others. Only I suppose not Terry soon, if he's going to go off with a Zulu company. Anyway, he's quite nice and really very fit, at least I think so, and he was at the Order meeting Saturday because he used to live at Moddey before he moved out to Sherwood and I talked with him there a bit, and I don't know if you noticed but we talked on Saturday too and then he wrote to me yesterday because he said he went straight to Mrs L to ask to be sworn in to the Order and then he wrote to me to tell me he'd done that specifically so that he could write to me and--and I think he fancies me and I think I just might fancy him back but I'm not sure because I've never really fancied anyone who was actually someone I ever could fancy, I mean not really, and I don't want Draco or Terry getting upset about it and how do you do this?

I mean, I want to write back to him but they'll see the message header. And with the way things are with Draco right now, I mean, he's really leaning on me a lot and I know he'll improve and it's not that I don't want to be supportive, I really do, I want to stick with him and we've even got a plan and we've talked to Sirius and he thinks it will be a good thing to do, and very helpful, so I'm really happy we have that to work on, but I don't want to upset him right now or make him think I'm going to abandon him. And Harry, I know you're spending loads of time with him, Hydra, but I could see how lonely he looked at the Order meeting on Saturday and I want to make sure he knows I still care about him.

Only. With Tim it's different. I mean, we don't really have a history together. And yes, he's a muggleborn but it's not as if that's the only thing we have in common, either.

Did I mention he's really quite fit?

Oh, bollocks. It'll never work, will it? I mean, he shares a tent with Dudley and Finbar and he's mates with Terry and I just don't think I can hurt Terry like that. Not right now, certainly. I mean, it would be different if it weren't someone he knows well, like that. Wouldn't it?

How do you lot ever manage to date different people at school? It's hopelessly complicated. I think I was better off not ever thinking about anyone like that. Maybe I'll just tell him we can only write to one another if we're just going to be mates, nothing else.
alt_hermione: (content)
Harry, I'm really glad you could leave Buckingham in time for the meeting yesterday. It was good to see you.

It was good to see everyone. It was just a little overwhelming, when so much has happened.

I've been thinking, maybe you could pretend to be interested in Voldemort's projects and so on, this summer, the same way some of the others have got close to Council members, and maybe that would help you figure out where his other Horcruxes are.

And then once we figure out where and what they are, we can destroy them.
alt_hermione: (purposeful)
Good luck! I hope everything goes well today.

Please let me know if you need help with anything or if my showing myself would be helpful. (And tell Mrs Longbottom and Sirius and and Auror Brodie that I said so, in case you're busy.)
alt_hermione: (Getting it done)
Are you in your room?

I went with Sirius to Moddey today, to help with Potions. And Mrs L told me to go see Melli before we left.

The heartstrings that Charlie harvested, she'd turned them into wands. Brand new ones. And she let me try them all, all seven.

I remember when Terry and I got our first wands, neither one was perfect and we switched back and forth a bit before we decided which ones to keep. But this...

It's beautiful. She used vine wood and it's 11 ¾ inches and it just feels.... Sirius said the right wand is like an extension of your hand. And he's so right. It made me just want to start casting spells right and left.

Do you want to see? I mean, I know it's not the most important thing that's ever happened but I can't help feeling happy.
alt_hermione: (purposeful)
Draco let me read what you wrote.

It helped. More than anything else has done, so far, I think.

He'd been listening to records from Sirius's old room and we were starting to be able to look at one another, before he got the note from his mother. And then he locked himself in his room all day. I was going to sit outside and try to get to him, but Mr Snape decided to put a chair in the corridor. Finally I got Kreacher to make roast beef and mash--his favourite, you know--and then he let me in. I put on one of the records (It was called 'Queen' and mostly I chose it because the first song was called 'Keep yourself alive') and we were sitting there listening and not talking. Which is really all we did last night, too, only this time I had a book to read so he wouldn't feel awkward.

And then you wrote to him. And he...well, it helped. And he showed it to me and then.... Remember when we talked? And you said you'd been afraid to let yourself feel because you feared you'd never be able to stop?

Well, he let himself feel. So did I. And it sort of flooded over for a little while. But then we both noticed the record had stopped.

And then he ate loads of pie. And vommed it (which was almost funny but I didn't dare laugh. Mostly I was just happy he tried eating anything).

So.

Thank you. I'm so glad you're in the Order, Hydra. Truly.

I'm so glad to know you.
alt_hermione: (upset)
I asked Kreacher and he made some roast beef. With mash and gravy. I've brought you a plate.

Will you let me in?

I promise we don't have to talk.
alt_hermione: Hermione looking down (hurt)
Mr Lupin suggested that maybe reading the journals, and seeing everyone expressing their love and concern, would help how I feel. And of course Harry was worried about us, and I saw what you said. And Justin was kind, only I just don't know what to say in return, so I was just going to let it stand. (I noticed you hadn't replied, either, probably for the same reasons.)

Only there was this message from Jeremy Stretton and...oh, it wasn't condolences or checking to ask if I was all right or anything. Which was fine. I'm not--I mean, I don't want to talk about how I feel. I don't think you do, either do you?

But he offered me Mr Nott's wand.

Seriously.

Mr Nott's wand.

I told him to burn it.

Have you decided what you're going to do? Will you try to go back, and tell them it was all my doing? I wouldn't blame you if you did, you know. That's what I told Hydra to tell them.

I just--can't think beyond the next few minutes at a time. Brewing for Mr Lupin helped. I bet you felt better raiding the Ministry than anything else, too.

You don't have to reply. If you blame me for getting us caught, or for you having to ruin your life, I understand.
alt_hermione: (Humouring)
All right, you can stop scowling at me. I wasn't going to tell you but I asked Ev for the key. She'll want it again at the weekend, though. Now, will you leave off?

....

So. Birthday tomorrow. Big one, too, right? Any particular plans? I imagine Daphs has something planned, she seems to be going out of her way to think of everything these days.

Is.... I mean, are you pleased with your arrangement with her? What I mean is, we seem to have loads of feigned relationships lately and it'd be, er, nice to think someone's actually enjoying themselves.
alt_hermione: (content)
Mr Snape has some potions work for me, so I may need to monitor that while we're revising. Or instead of revising, even. The tests he wants me to run are really complicated, it might be a bad idea to split my attention.

But you could quiz each other and I'll listen.

Anyway, I'll be in there already this afternoon, so just come along when you're ready.
alt_hermione: (Disgusted)
Are you two all right?

I know it's one thing to know that things could get deadly and another to see that they are getting deadly.

This is just the sort of thing you and Ron tried to prevent, Harry. You must be upset that it happened anyway.

I keep thinking about Dean and Mr Weasley. He'd be so disappointed at how this turned out.
alt_hermione: Hermione has decided to do something wicked. (wicked)
Look, I can't PM all three of you, but I'm really disappointed you and Ron didn't think of a way to let Draco know what was happening.

He could have humoured Patil long enough to get her help. He could have avoided her or at least told St M's that he thought it was a potion. Did any of you think to trust him not to only tell what he needed to tell, without getting any of the Order into trouble?

And even if he didn't have to tell anyone, he deserved to know why she was going after him. He thought it was his challenge!

It wasn't right to do that to Patil, either. She's a horrible cow but no one deserves being forced to humiliate themselves in public. Terry and I should know. And certainly no one deserves to be driven to try to commit suicide. Someone should have been ready to watch for a reaction like that. Love potions are really dangerous, even mild ones. And it's positively cruel to play with someone's feelings, no matter what the reason.

I know you have a history with her but that's all it was: Cruel. And unfair to Draco, too. And I thought you were all better than that.

That's all.
alt_hermione: Hermione knows what she's doing (Default)
I talked to him.

He's not going to quit but he's really cross with Sally-Anne and Ron and Pansy. And from what I can see, he's got every right to be.

He's calmer now but it's unfortunate we're back to school tomorrow because I'd like him to talk to you when he's not feeling so strained but that's not going to happen while we're at Hogwarts.

He--it's been hard for him this holiday. Harder than usual. And I didn't help matters but we're all right now, I think.

Anyway. At least he's seen that it's better to stay than go it alone.
alt_hermione: Hermione shocked. (shocked)
Okay, that was not what I'd planned on, quite.

I'm just glad it's over. Harry, was Professor Lestrange really cross with you?

I'm fine. But I'm glad everyone goes home tomorrow.
alt_hermione: Hermione cringing in the dark. (cringe)
Hydra came and found me and told me that she talked to Teddy Nott. She decided to try Sirius's idea, and convince him that I'm so atavistic that I can't think anything but the crudest thoughts, so fantasising about Professor Lestrange was about the limit of my imagination.

Anyway. She said she thinks she got him believing that part, although he seemed both smug to have been right about my pea-sized brain while simultaneously disappointed that I wasn't concealing something more nefarious.

But, the problem is, she doesn't think he's necessarily going to stop there. He wouldn't tell her what he plans, but he's going to try to make me do something humiliating before supper tomorrow.

And look. If whatever it is is at all tolerable, I think I should just do it. He's not going to be satisfied with anything less. He's just going to push and push until he gets what he wants.

Like with Hydra. She said he tried a different tactic today and instead of coming on so incredibly strong like before, today he was acting like a caricature of a gentleman. He even joked about how Justin used to carry her books for her and then he levitated them just out of her reach.

She said that when he compared me to an animal, she caught a sort of ... image, in his head. A memory. Like the time he cut me to see if my blood was red or brown. Only this was of a cat that he'd cut apart.

And then she said she could tell that he got--well, turned on. (Do you know what I mean?) She said she manipulated him pretty easily but she had that quiet calm she gets when she's really upset. (I think maybe we should make sure she's not completely alone when she's where he might go--because honestly, she shouldn't have to cope with Teddy on top of everything else she's going through right now.)

I'm not telling either of you this so that you can go and find him and invent an excuse to put him in the Hospital Wing. I just want you both to be prepared in case he does try something--and in case I do what he asks me to do, not to react out of proportion.

And Harry, that goes double for Draco. I don't know if maybe he's reacting this way because it's bringing up Dennis again, or what--I mean, maybe, I don't know, but whatever it is, he's been acting so oddly about the whole thing. I mean, this isn't really all that much more dangerous or horrible than loads of things we've done before but suddenly he's acting like I'm going to blunder the whole operation just because of Teddy's threats.

I'm not underestimating Teddy and if it's too awful, Harry, I'll just tell him I need your permission and you can tell him no.

But if it's even remotely something I can survive, without any lasting harm, then I think I should just go ahead and get it over with. It's not like he actually has any leverage, and in fact it's probably better to put him off the scent by making him think he's won this round.
alt_hermione: Hermione approves (Happy)
I just had to tell someone: You know how Mr Snape asked me to come with him this morning after breakfast? It was because he wanted me to try my hand at brewing Mr Lupin's Wolfsbane potion.

I was ever so nervous. And I didn't do very well at all. Of course, Mr Snape just said his own first attempt was worse but I'm sure he's just being kind. Anyway, he's going to have me brew it again tomorrow. Well, he's going to brew it and I'm supposed to brew alongside him, following what he does. (I'm not sure why he didn't do that in the first place, it would have been so much less frightening.)

Oh, and he liked his present, too.

I didn't want to say out in front of everyone, because I don't think he wants Mr Lupin to know just yet that he's teaching me to brew his potion, and because I didn't want to hurt Pansy's feelings, you know.

Draco, you went and talked to him, didn't you, about your plan? Was he really helpful?

Anyway, I've got to read over the notes again tonight but I thought also, I'd mention that you should talk about Miss Morgansen at the next reading meeting. Tell people, I mean. So they'll know how the fake one's being written.

Or do you think you'll be able to keep holding those, with this competition going on? Oh, and you know anything that anyone needs to help with that, just say so.
alt_hermione: Hermione gets bad news (bothered)
Are you going flying tomorrow with the others?

Only, you didn't last week.

You know, if you tell your parents you're with Harry at Buckingham and he tells Broome and Professor Lestrange he's with you at Kensington or Malfoy Manor, that works for you, as well as for him. And you don't need to sit round yours all the time, then.

It's just that it doesn't have to all be for Harry, you know. You could do some things for yourself, too.

Didn't you enjoy Hydra's party?
alt_hermione: Hermione approves (Happy)
Mr and Mrs Longbottom,

You should both come tomorrow but don't go to the Shack. There's a cave in the hills just outside the village. Sirius has used it sometimes when he's come to visit Harry. It's a bigger area but it's still secluded and really, it would have been next to impossible to get everyone through the tunnel to the Shack or have them Apparate into the Shack from somewhere in the village.

Mrs Longbottom, nearly everyone's decided that they do want to join up, although Luna has some questions and Draco's dead-set against joining, which isn't surprising at all, but don't worry it doesn't mean he wants to be a Death Eater any more than he wants to join the Order, even if he will go on about magic tattoos and how nift they are.

Terry, are you going to come too?
alt_hermione: Hermione gets ready (bracing)
All right, everyone. Here’s what happened:

Umbridge has been using Megan Jones as a little toady and errand girl only she’s been hexing her horribly over things that aren’t even her fault. And sometime this morning she must have cursed Megan so her hands would cramp, only it was a Dark spell and it starting slowly making all her muscles contract and spasm, so we had some discussion and decided that really, it didn’t matter if she were collaborating with Madam Umbridge, we needed to offer to help her. So we sent a message out on our coins and Sarah offered to hide the potion for Megan, so she could get it but wouldn’t be able to get us in trouble for it.

Only Megan found the potion and then instead of taking it, she stayed there to see if the person who put it there came back. And when Sarah did come back, Megan jumped out and grabbed her and screamed "you can't trap me, I'm loyal!" and they started to row, and I guess then Patil alerted Madam Umbridge and she came along and took them to her office. And the next thing we knew Sarah had put her emergency failsafe coin activation, so we all went on alert.

I think Madam Umbridge must have used the Cruciatus curse on her.

Harry made everyone create diversions and distractions while we came up with a plan to get Sarah away from Madam Umbridge, that’s when Fred & George set off the dragon firework. Madam Umbridge went to see and wound up being chased under a table. Meanwhile, Ron, Sally-Anne, Pansy and--and Draco Malfoy--met Harry at a spot near Umbridge's office waited for her to leave. Then they went and got Sarah. And you’ll probably not believe this but Draco had a plan, so Sally-Anne and Sarah switched their robes and we made Sally-Anne look like Sarah and Harry loaned her his invisibility cloak, and then Ron and Pansy took Sarah to the Shrieking Shack (and yes we know how to get there) and Sally-Anne and Draco pretended that he was chasing Sarah (Sally-Anne in disguise) out of the castle and the others on the Galleon got as many people to see as possible. You know that Ron and Pansy brought her to Doughty Conduit.

Once she was outside, Sally-Anne slipped under the invisibility cloak, left some robe bits and pieces and some blood from an animal, and ran back to the castle.

And that’s it, really. The Galleoneers helped each other come up with alibis, and Justin and Hydra have collected Megan to get her to the Healer and it's all settling back down now.

Oh, Harry destroyed Umbridge’s Floo.

Oh, and also, Draco Malfoy knows about the Institute.
alt_hermione: Hermione, leaning on Harry's shoulder (despondent)
Sirius's group is working on organising lessons over the holidays.

The thing is that they're telling everyone else's parents (who need to be told something) that Mrs Weasley's holding them at her home and, well, she can't exactly ask if you can come over, can she?

I suggested another way but it doesn't look like they want to take it. They think it's too risky (even though I know Sirius would love to have you come and visit and spend time with him. I'm sorry).

I know Mr Malfoy owled Draco because he's arranging lessons for you two over the holidays but it won't be the same, will it? And they're not going to teach you to Apparate. But maybe I can convince the librarian at Buckingham that you've sent me to collect books for you and read in your rooms?

Well. We'll figure something out, I suppose.
