Why Terry left.

I hadn't planned on talking about it really but I just told Harry about some of it and then I felt bad for not telling you clearly. Well, it's because of me, really, because Miss Professor Carrow will hurt me if he doesn't do what I say, and also because Amycus Carrow said that he was going to tell the Lord Protector that the Headmistress was a traitor if she didn't do what he wanted.

Harry says that his father is strange lately and I've noticed it too, but you know that if Harry is saying it it must be really bad. You know that the Headmistress was nicer to Terry than I think anybody has ever been in his life, I mean, she used to let him read books and eat as much as he wanted and he had a real bed and everything, just as nice as I do or nicer maybe even.

So that's why.

Also I won't talk about the other thing even though I know you all want me to, I can't, I slipped, I can't believe it let me slip like that, I thought it would kill me. But I can't say any more at all, so that's that and please don't badger me about it, I just can't.

Miss Professor Carrow is going to hurt you?

I knew it. She's just as horrible as he is, and really maybe worse because he could get so, y'know, mad that he couldn't always make sense. But she's more, well, she's more something. She keeps control of herself more.

And I think she plans stuff out instead of just doing stuff on the spot, y'know? That's how she was in Muggle Studies always. I mean, he planned stuff, too, but the really bad stuff always happened when things didn't go the way he planned them.

I think.

But it's really bad if she's planning how she can hurt you, Hermione. Even if it's meant to be just a threat if you don't do this thing or that thing or whatever. It's really bad that she's sitting around thinking about ways she could get to you and hurt you.

Like you couldn't figure that out. Okay. Yeah. Sorry.

And I won't say anything about the other thing. Except. I want to know. Does Harry know about him? You can say that 'cause it's not telling anything about the other thing at all, just whether Harry knows what we do.

She killed my father, and he was supposed to be on her side.

So I wouldn't turn my back on her, not for one moment.

You'd better not, Fisheye.

Perks, that goes double for you.

This is the only time I've ever wished I was taking Dark Arts, but I wish I was so someone would have your back while you're taking that exam.

What a bleeding bastard that Carrow bloke is. Merlin, he knew just what lever to push to get his claws sunk in deep into the Professor, didn't he? It figures. Guess Terry would've done anything to keep you safe. We could see how he felt about you. And the Headmistress, too, I guess, although as far we're concerned, she bloody well doesn't deserve a sacrifice like that.

Oh, bugger....there's something we used to have that could have helped keep you safe from Alecto Carrow, but we gave it to Terry. Maybe he still has it, which will do you no good, unless we can figure out how to send him an owl that he can send back safely.

Or maybe he left it in his cubby in the Headmistress's office, under his pallet or something. Which means we'll have to figure out how to sneak in there before school lets out.

Wonder if she's changed the password yet? Maybe we could try during the Leaving Feast?

Well, that's another thing to ask him if he writes back.

When he writes back.

But if we don't hear back from him I'll help with getting into the Headmistress's office. At least I can be the lookout.

Sneak into the Headmistress's office?! Blimey, is there anything you lot won't try?

Don't answer that.

Why not? We've done it before. Of course, we'd be careful...

Oh, Hermione.

Please tell me Harry's not going to bring you to Dark Arts with him.

Even with Terry having gone, like Carrow wanted -- you can't trust her, not for an instant. Not for an instant.

I just reread this, and I just realised...

You thought you'd die because you slipped. That must mean you're under an Unbreakable Vow then, right?

Wow. That's...that's real serious stuff, Hermione.

Yeah, we won't pester you at all. Promise.

...an Unbreakable Vow. Of course. That makes sense.

It couldn't have been, 'I will not reveal to anyone that Sirius Black is alive,' though. I expect it has something to do with the Wand Smugglers (though of course Hermione you shouldn't say, I'm not hounding you, just thinking about this).

I've always wondered, with Unbreakable Vows, how close you can get to breaking it without the spell killing you -- I mean, if I swore an Unbreakable Vow not to tell anyone that Daphne fancied Greg (not that she does) but I said, 'Guess who fancies Greg? I'll give you a hint: she's in my dorm. And everyone thinks she fancies someone else. And she's not my best friend. And she's not a complete eejit!' ...would that count? I suppose no one's really inclined to experiment and find out.

I'm glad this didn't come close enough to the secret to hurt you, Hermione. Enough awful things happened last week. More than enough.

I wonder if everyone in the organisation takes an Unbreakable Vow? It's a good idea in some ways because that way if they're captured by MLE they can just blurt out enough of the secret that they fall over dead and then MLE can't find out anything. So long as it's specific enough that they don't break the vow by accident.

I should really be revising for the Transfiguration exam but it's the last thing in the world I want to think about right now.

Unbreakable Vows are far more appealing.
