alt_hermione: Hermione, weighing the options. (considering)
alt_hermione ([personal profile] alt_hermione) wrote2011-12-22 09:51 am

I Solemnly Swear that I am Up to No Good -- Cruciatus.

I just wanted to say, that I feel sorry for Cassandra, but I hate seeing people talk about it like it's something special. It isn't something special. It isn't special to her to be made to wait and know she's to be punished and it isn't special for her to be punished either.

I don't even mean that us Mudbloods get punished like that all the time; what I mean is even people like Hydra -- of course I bet Daphne Greengrass has never felt Cruciatus in her whole life but there are other purebloods in the world, and I think it's worse the higher up you get, except Harry because everyone's so protective of him.

But I just mean, this morning everyone was muttering at breakfast about how unfair it was, and maybe it is in comparison to how it could be, but it isn't unfair according to the way things are, because the way things are it's normal and I don't know why people won't admit that. It happens all the time, just not normally to Cassandra Calderwood or in front of the whole school!!

Exactly. What she said.

It was bloody awful.

I don't know about the rest, but I reckon you're right.

What I wish is we'd figure out some way to get Professor Carrow sacked, because she was what was so-

yeah-

did you see the way she grinned? and the way she kept twisting her wand like she was screwing that curse right into Calderwood.

Anywiz. I was thinking, well, some of the stuff we've been studying in Runes about undermining enemies, we could maybe find something that would work on Professor Carrow so she'd go so barking they'd sack her or just make her so uncomfortable she'd want to leave. I mean, we're getting into some really more useful stuff in there and- only, I reckon we don't know enough yet, maybe, to make it really strong.

Or not get caught.

Anything that gets Carrow sacked is fine by me.

Seeing her every day after knowing what she did to my father turns my stomach.

If I got the chance to scramble her brains again so hard that they couldn't be unscrambled, I'd do it.

Well.

I knitted her a pair of socks with a rune in them to make them itchier. But after what happened to Cassie I decided it would be too risky to give them to her.

So I made her a pair of yellow socks instead and just didn't put in any runes at all.

Well, I'm not saying I want her to stick around there, cruciating people. But remember that she's the secret keeper for Lincoln Castle. I don't know how we'll ever be able to trick the secret out of her, but if she IS sacked, then I'm afraid my chances of ever getting out of here will probably drop to zero.

OH

I wonder

I'll have to think about this.

Hey, if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear 'em.

You're great at coming up with really sneaky ideas.

Yes, she is.

Best of all, of course, would be coming up with something brilliant that tricks the secret out of her AND gets her sacked at the same time.

I made Christmas gifts for all the teachers this year. I'd been planning to just have the elves deliver them, but I could deliver Miss Professor Carrow's in person and tell her I'm making a pair for Mr Professor Carrow and I'd like to owl them to him for Christmas Day.

She MIGHT tell me.

I'll need to re-do her socks, though. I think I mentioned I did them in yellow. If I'm going to try this I'll need to make her a really nice pair. AND I'd have to make a really nice pair for Amycus, or it would be awfully suspicious.

So then I'd know the secret. But telling anyone else wouldn't help. Would that be of any use? It might be useful if she DIES. I can't remember how the spell works exactly.

It's worth a try, I guess. Best of luck, and let us know what she says.

Yeah, I know what you mean, about the look on her face. It was really sick.

Evelyn told me afterward that she almost fainted just from watching it, but she managed to hide it. I'm glad she didn't. I'm afraid that would have drawn some attention that would have been really bad.

Yeah.

I was trying to guess at breakfast who'd been cruciated before, from the way they looked when they were talking about Cassie.

It was a LOT of people.

Some of the students in Cassie's year were saying that, actually. That it shouldn't be used on pureblood students because it's treating them like mudblomuggleborns.

It's such a weird thing to say though because you're absolutely right, it's a complete lie.

I think you're right about Daphne.

But I think me, Pansy, and Milli have all been cruciated at some point (Milli just had the LOOK when people were talking about it.) and over on the boy's side, Draco and Teddy have for sure. Greg, I think his father cruciated him as punishment for losing his diary. Vince had the look too, although I don't know when he'd have got it. Blaise, I couldn't decide, he had his Utterly Stone Faced look on -- maybe, maybe not.

Honestly it would probably be a more effective horrifying threat if they used it less. It's utterly awful when they do it to you but you also know after, it doesn't go on forever (unless they want to drive you mad, I suppose). I think I was more frightened of it before it happened to me. Not that it's not frightening, it makes me sick thinking about it. It made me sick watching Carrow do it to Cassie.

I think watching them do it to someone I cared about would be the worst.

I remember Sandoval doing it to you.

I would rather be back with Mrs Black for Christmas than see it happen to you again.
